Forest School GROUP 1 LETTER September 2019

5th September 2019

Dear Parents and carers,

Your child will be taking part in the Forest School programme this term. This letter will give you more information about what we do, when we will be doing it and how you can be involved.

How can we have a Forest school at Cullompton Pre-school?

A forest school morning will include a circle time about aspects of personal care and safety; learning how to behave around a campfire (introduced using a small contained kettle fire, leading to a cooking fire in weeks 4, 5 and 6); a range of craft and practical activities using natural materials; simple camp cookery; stories, songs and hot chocolate; exploring our immediate surroundings; time to run and play in the garden using large apparatus.

We would also appreciate one or two parent volunteers to help at pre-school sessions. You do not have to commit to every week but it is very helpful if we have parental help at these sessions. Please let the office know if you can help.

What tools will the children be using?

Mostly we will be using the same tools we use in the classroom, like cooking utensils, writing materials, scissors and gardening tools. For one activity we shall be using a bow-saw and the workbench, with an adult working 1-1 with each child in turn. We also use hammers and wooden mallets with 1-1 supervision.

When is this all happening and how can you help ?

Forest school sessions will be on Thursday and Friday mornings at the usual session times, dates as below.
