Summer Term Week 1
Welcome back to all our families, we have so enjoyed seeing everyone this week and hearing about your Easter holidays and how many eggs the Easter Bunny brought – one little chap had 100 apparently!! We have had a fantastic first week back with lots of sunny days and happy faces. This week has been focused on settling back in and following the routines and the rules after a break and we are all back in the swing of it now. Forest School sessions have started for the older children who did not take part in the Autumn Term and these are run by Rachel from Exeter Outdoors with Jackie and Sophie supporting. Jackie and Sophie will both be undertaking the Level 3 Forest School qualification this year which is very exciting for us as we will be able to run Forest School with a fire every week at pre-school. We are lucky that our committee are very dedicated and have agreed to use fundraising money to pay for their training as an investment into our lovely setting. We will be looking for new committee members towards the end of the summer term as all of our current team have children who are leaving us this year. Please do get in touch if you are interested!
Our focus on areas of learning for the half term are Making Relationships, Understanding, Health and Self Care, Reading, Writing, Space, shape and measure, people and communities and exploring different media. Within these overall areas we plan lots of different activities and games and role play and circle times – all helping children to make progress within the Early Years Framework that we follow ahead of the children moving to primary school. You will get next steps to work on at home within one of these areas and please let us have some feedback when you have done the activities! The next steps will come out from the office over the next couple of weeks.
We will also be focusing on Technology over the coming weeks, specifically online safety. We have recently had some new training and so many 2, 3, and 4 year olds now have their own tablets so an important area for us to teach.
Our circle times this week have been great fun, we have a pirate theme at the moment and we have been planning using that theme for some of the circle times!
Star group – have been making pictures using shapes, been on a bear hunt, learnt about weight and what is heavy and light, been to a birthday party and started to talk about sequences such as the order of the day here at pre-school.
Sun and Moon groups – have been making pirate treasure maps, enjoyed pirate yoga and they have written their own stories, worked with timers and learnt about time and managed to stay silent for a whole minute! We have also done an animal workout with Alexa and played our favourite songs and TV theme tunes! They have also made their own instruments using recyclable materials.
Next week we are expanding the mud kitchen so any donations of herbs/oranges/lemons/limes would be gratefully received and we will set up a cafe role play area and leave the pirate ship out for more play as well. Home learning ideas include looking at extreme weather on your phones or tablets with your child and chatting about different weather in different countries. We will be learning all about different jobs as well next week so chat to your children about your jobs.
